The Original Bert Dubrowksi

Another one for illustration class. Blech. I think I'll steal a few non-class-art pieces and just say I did them for class.

FUN FACT: Bertrand Dubrowski wasn't always Ned the Hobo, and not in the "HUR HUR TRAGIC BACKSTORY" kind of way.

The original character of Bertrand Dubrowski was a 70something year old hermitic, antisocial grandpa character. He'd been difficult to get close to since he was young--he had to escape the draft back in his youth after the birth of his first son, but his younger brother was sent to war and was killed, something Bert never really got over. He had another son many years later, and due to emotional problems, distance, and a period of alcoholism, his wife left with his two sons. No divorce, no note, just one day up and gone. He's searched but hasn't found.

Linked strongly to his house, he'd lived there since the late 60's and has no plans on moving despite what strong memories he has leftover from his failed family life. Hopes someday his grown sons will find him. Until then, he'll sit on his porch and tell kids to get the fuck off his lawn whenever they manage to stray.

I MADE A CHARACTERLESS HOBO NAMED NED WHO NEEDED A BACKSTORY SO I STOLE BERTRAND FOR A SPELL AND NOW THERE'S HARDLY ANY TRACE LEFT OF HIM IN NEDBERT. How great would it have been to have a 70 year old hermit in a zombie apocalypse? His body would've tasted like jerky to the zombies, I reckon.
